How much does gutter cleaning cost?
Price follows ladder time: how high, how many feet, how packed, and what is on top. Here is how to place your own house before you ask for a number.
Gutter cleaning in Northeast Ohio commonly runs about $100 to $250 for a single-story home and $150 to $350 for a two-story, a market range from quotes homeowners report, not a Guttrz price. Price is driven by stories and ladder height, linear feet of gutter, how packed the gutters are, whether guards are on, buried downspouts, and outbuildings. Most single-story homes fall at the low end. Guttrz gives one firm price from your address and a photo, usually within the hour during business hours, with no visit needed for most homes.
Gutter cleaning cost comes down to time on a ladder. Every company is pricing the same four things: how high the gutters are, how many feet the house carries, how packed they are, and whether anything is sitting on top of them. Guttrz does not publish a price list, because a colonial in Hudson and a ranch in North Canton are not the same job. Instead you get one firm price from your address and a photo, usually within the hour during business hours, with no visit needed for most homes. What drives the cost of gutter cleaning?
Eight things move the price of a gutter cleaning in Northeast Ohio, and you can judge most of them from your driveway. Height and footage set the base; debris, guards, drains, outbuildings, access and season move it from there.
Stories and ladder height
A single-story gutter sits about 10 feet up and is worked from a short ladder that moves fast. A two-story gutter sits 18 to 22 feet up. The ladder is heavier, each move takes longer, and every section is worked with more care, so the same footage takes noticeably more time. Split-levels are a mix: part of the job is at one height and part at the other.
Linear feet of gutter
You can estimate footage without a tape. Gutter runs along every eave, so add up the roof edges that are not gable ends. A 1,400 square foot ranch with a simple rectangle roof usually carries about 120 to 160 feet. A split-level carries about 140 to 190 feet on two heights. A two-story colonial with a porch and an attached garage carries about 150 to 220 feet, most of it at full height. Height matters more than length: 150 feet at two stories is a longer job than 200 feet at one.
How clogged the gutters are
Gutters cleaned every fall hold a few inches of loose leaves and seeds that scoop out quickly. Gutters untouched for three or four years hold compacted, wet material turning into soil, often with maple seedlings rooted in it. It is heavy, it packs the downspout outlets, and the outlets have to be dug out by hand before a hose can do anything. A first cleaning in years is the most common reason a quote lands above the typical range for the house size.

Gutter guards already on the house
Plastic screens and foam inserts lift out, get shaken off, and go back in, which adds a little time. Fastened micro-mesh or reverse-curve covers have to be unfastened, lifted and reinstalled, which can double the time per run. If your guards are the reason the gutters clog, you should hear that from whoever cleans them. Micro-mesh guards on a clean, properly pitched gutter are how most homeowners stop paying for cleanings twice a year.
Underground drains and buried downspouts
A downspout that empties onto a splash block is flushed from the top and checked at the bottom in a minute or two. One that goes into a buried pipe cannot be checked the same way. Guttrz flushes it and confirms water enters the drain connection, and if the buried line backs up, you are told and shown in the photos. Clearing an underground line takes a jetter or a camera and is a separate trade. The downspout cleaning page covers what a flush does and does not include.
Detached garages, barns and sheds
An outbuilding is extra footage plus extra ladder setups, and often the dirtiest gutter on the property. A detached garage usually adds 40 to 80 feet; a pole barn can add more than the house. Include it in the photo you send and it is priced on the same quote and cleaned on the same visit.
Roof pitch, decks, fences and landscaping
The ladder has to stand somewhere. A gutter above a deck, a fence line, a row of arborvitae or a steep bank takes longer to reach, and a steep roof takes longer still. None of this shows in a street photo, so if your back gutters are hard to get at, say so when you send the address.
Season
Fall is the rush. Oak and maple leaf drop in Stark and Summit counties runs from mid October into late November, and most people call in the same two weeks, so some companies raise prices or add a wait. A late winter or early spring cleaning is often a lighter job and an easier booking. For the yearly schedule that fits Ohio trees, read how often to clean gutters in Ohio.
Gutter cleaning cost by house type
The market column is what gutter cleaning commonly runs in Northeast Ohio, from quotes homeowners report. It is a market range, not a Guttrz price. Guttrz prices each house from its address and a photo.
| House type | Typical gutter footage | What usually moves the price | Northeast Ohio market range (not a Guttrz price) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single-story ranch | About 120 to 160 feet, all at one height | Years since the last cleaning, buried downspouts, a detached garage | Commonly about $100 to $250 |
| Split-level or bi-level | About 140 to 190 feet on two heights | How much of the footage is on the upper level, access to the back | Between the single-story and two-story ranges, by run height |
| Two-story colonial | About 150 to 220 feet, most at two-story height | Ladder height, porch and garage runs, fastened guards | Commonly about $150 to $350 |
| Any house with a detached garage or barn | Adds about 40 to 80 feet, more for a barn | Extra ladder setups, often the most neglected gutter on the lot | Added to the house price on the same quote |
How does Guttrz price a cleaning without a visit?
Most homes do not need a visit. Send your address and a photo of the house from the street through the form on this page or by text. The address shows the roof footprint, the stories, and the attached and detached structures. The photo shows whether guards are on, how a ladder gets around the house, and often how full the gutters are from what hangs over the front lip. From those two things Guttrz sends one firm price, usually within the hour during business hours. Most single-story homes land at the low end of the range above. If the house turns out different from the photo, the price is confirmed with you before any work starts, not added to the bill after.
A per-foot rate hides ladder time: two homes with 160 feet of gutter are very different jobs if one is a ranch and the other a colonial. The page on gutter cleaning in Canton and Akron covers what a visit looks like, and the town pages for North Canton and Hudson cover the housing stock and trees that set the price there.
What does a cheap gutter cleaning quote leave out?
The lowest number is often for scooping and nothing else. Before you compare prices, ask what each one includes. The items that go missing from a low quote are the ones that decide whether the gutters actually drain:
- Downspout flushing. A scooped gutter with a plugged outlet still overflows at the first rain. Flushing until water runs clear is the half of the job that proves the work.
- Haul-away. Some quotes leave the debris in piles on the lawn or in your bins.
- Photos. Without ladder photos, you are trusting that the back of the house got done.
- Flagging problems. Loose hangers, failed corner seals and sagging runs are easy to see from the ladder and worth knowing about before winter.
- Insurance. Ask for proof of liability coverage, not a yes.
Every Guttrz cleaning includes hand clearing, every downspout flushed until water runs clear, debris bagged and hauled, loose hangers and seams flagged with a photo, and before and after photos texted the same day. A failed corner seal or a sagging run is quoted separately through gutter repair, and nothing is fixed without your say-so.
What does it cost to clean your own gutters?
On a single-story ranch with a walkable yard, doing it yourself is a fair choice. You need an extension ladder that puts your waist at gutter level, a gutter scoop, heavy gloves, a bucket with a hook, a hose, and a Saturday. The ladder is the real cost: at most hardware stores a 24-foot extension ladder runs about what one or two professional cleanings cost, so the math only works if you will use it for years. Budget three to five hours for a ranch the first time.
The honest part is the risk. Ladder falls are one of the most common home injuries, and a two-story gutter puts you 20 feet up on a ladder leaning against the thing you are trying to clean. If your house is two stories, steep, or you would be up there alone, this is the point to stop reading about DIY and get a gutter cleaning quote instead.
Should you keep paying for cleanings or install guards?
If your house needs cleaning twice a year, after maple seeds in late spring and after leaf drop in November, those cleanings add up over a few years, and you still get the overflow in between. Micro-mesh guards stop that cycle. Guttrz includes a full cleaning, a downspout flush and corner resealing with every guard install, priced per linear foot after a free measurement. Not sure the gutters are the problem? Start with the signs you need a gutter cleaning.
To get your price, use the form on this page or text your address and a street photo to (330) 818-5584. You get one firm number for the whole job, usually within the hour during business hours, on every gutter cleaning in Canton and Akron and the rest of Stark, Summit and Medina counties.
Questions
How much does gutter cleaning cost for a two-story house?
A two-story house sits at the upper part of the range on this page because the gutters are 18 to 22 feet up. The ladder is heavier, every move takes longer, and each section is worked with more care. Footage matters too: a colonial with a porch and an attached garage often carries 150 to 220 feet, most of it at full height. Guttrz prices a two-story from the address and a street photo, so you get one firm number before anyone shows up.
Does gutter cleaning cost more if I already have gutter guards?
It depends on the guard. Plastic screens and foam inserts lift out and go back in, which adds a little time. Fastened covers and reverse-curve hoods have to be unfastened, lifted and reinstalled, which can double the time per run. Send a close photo of the guard with your address and the price accounts for it. If the guards are why the gutters keep clogging, you will hear that honestly instead of paying for the same cleanup every year.
Is gutter cleaning cheaper in the spring than in the fall?
With Guttrz the price follows the same factors in any season: stories, footage, how packed, and guards. A spring cleaning can land lower only because the gutters are often lighter than they are right after November leaf drop. The bigger difference is scheduling. Fall is the rush, and a late winter or early spring booking is usually easier to get and catches the maple seeds before they sprout in the gutter.
Do you charge extra to clean the downspouts?
No. Flushing every downspout with a hose until water runs clear is part of every Guttrz cleaning, not an add-on. A packed outlet is dug out by hand first. The one thing not included is a buried drain line that backs up. Guttrz confirms water enters the connection and shows you in the photos if it does not, and clearing the underground pipe is referred to a drain company that has a jetter and a camera.
Do you charge extra for a detached garage or barn?
Yes, because it is more gutter and more ladder setups. A detached garage usually adds 40 to 80 feet, and a pole barn can carry more gutter than the house. It is priced on the same quote and cleaned on the same visit, which is cheaper than a separate trip later. Include the building in the photo you send so the first price already covers it.
How can you give a firm price without seeing the house?
The address shows the roof footprint, the number of stories, and the attached and detached structures. A photo from the street shows whether guards are on, how a ladder gets around the house, and often how full the gutters are from what is hanging over the lip. That is enough for one firm price on most homes, usually within the hour during business hours. If the house turns out different from the photo, the price is confirmed with you before any work starts.
What happens if you find damage while cleaning my gutters?
It gets photographed and flagged, not fixed on the spot without asking. Loose hangers, failed corner seals, a run that holds water, and soft fascia are the common finds. You get the photos the same day and a separate quote for any repair you want done. Resealing, resloping and rehanging are handled through the Guttrz gutter repair service. Nothing is added to the cleaning bill.
Is paying for gutter cleaning worth it?
For most Northeast Ohio homes, yes, once a year at minimum. A clogged gutter sends roof water down the siding and against the foundation, which is a common path to a damp basement, and it soaks the fascia the gutter hangs on. One cleaning costs far less than drying out a basement or replacing rotted fascia. If you are paying twice a year because of maple seeds and leaves, gutter guards are the way to stop the cycle.
