The gutter guard installation process, step by step

The Guttrz gutter guard installation process has five steps: send your address, get a price range by text within an hour, confirm one firm price in a 20-minute on-site visit, have guards installed in one day (usually half a day) with cleaning and resealing included, and get before-and-after photos the same day. From first text to finished install usually takes about a week, with no in-home sales presentation.
The Guttrz gutter guard installation process has five steps, and only two of them need anyone at your house. Here is what happens at each step, how much of your time it takes, and what can change the plan.

Step 1: Send your address
Use the form on this page or text your address to (330) 818-5584. We pull your home up on satellite imagery and trace every roof edge that carries a gutter. A typical home takes about ten minutes to measure.
What we measure from satellite
- Total linear feet of gutter on every roof edge
- Number of inside and outside corners
- Which runs are at one-story or two-story height
- Roof sections that look steep
- Trees hanging over the roof, and which sides get the most debris
What satellite cannot show us
- Whether your gutters are 5-inch or 6-inch
- Soft or rotted fascia behind the gutter
- Loose hangers, sagging runs, or gutters pitched the wrong way
- Leaking corners and seams
- Gutter runs hidden under heavy tree cover or on recent additions
That second list is why the next step is a range and not a final price.
Step 2: Price range by text, within the hour
Within an hour you get a text with your measured footage, corner count, and a price range. No phone call is required. Step 3: The 20-minute on-site confirm
The on-site confirm is a ladder check, not the kind of in-home sales appointment described on our Guttrz vs LeafFilter page. In about 20 minutes we look at the things satellite cannot see, then give you one firm price on a one-page agreement.
What the on-site check covers
- Gutter size, 5-inch or 6-inch
- Gutter pitch, so water runs toward the downspouts instead of sitting
- Fascia condition, pressing on the wood behind the gutter for soft spots
- Hangers and spikes, and any run pulling away from the house
- Leaks at corners, seams, and end caps
- Downspout outlets and whether they drain freely
- The roof edge and shingle overhang where the guard will sit
- Height and pitch, to confirm whether the single-story or two-story rate applies
- Safe ladder spots around decks, sunrooms, and landscaping
The price is good for one year. The agreement comes with the Ohio notice of your three-business-day right to cancel. If you want to go ahead, half down gets you on the schedule.
What happens if we find rot or sagging?
You hear about it right then, with photos, before you sign anything. Guards do not go on over soft fascia or a sagging run, because a guard fastened to a failing gutter fails right along with it. How to prepare for the gutter guard installation process
You do not need to do much. The goal is clear access to every side of the house for ladders and debris bags.
- Move cars out of the driveway if a gutter runs above it, including the garage.
- Keep pets inside or away from the yard for the day.
- Unlock gates and make sure every side of the house can be reached.
- Move grills, patio furniture, and planters a few feet away from the walls.
- Tell us about invisible pet fences, sprinkler heads, or fragile plantings near the house.
- Let us know if an outdoor faucet can be used for the downspout flush.
Step 4: Install day, usually half a day
Most installs finish in half a day. Here is the order of work, start to finish.
- Clean. Every gutter is cleaned out by hand, and debris goes into bags.
- Flush. Each downspout is flushed with water until it runs clear.
- Reseal. Leaking corners get resealed before any mesh covers them.
- Reslope if needed. A run that holds standing water gets a few hangers adjusted so it drains toward the downspout. If the whole run needs resloping or rehanging, that is on your quote as its own line before install day.
- Fasten the guards. The micro-mesh goes on per the manufacturer's spec, fastened to the gutter lip and the roof edge, never screwed through your shingles. Corners are cut and fitted by hand.
- Haul debris. Bagged leaves, seeds, and grit leave with us.
- Photos. We photograph every side of the house before we leave.
Small fixes during the install, like a missing downspout section, a loose hanger, or a leaking seam, are included at no charge.
Weather delays
Ladder work stops for rain, ice, high wind, or snow on the roof edge. In Northeast Ohio that can mean a thunderstorm day in summer or a freeze-thaw week in winter. If the forecast turns, we text you and move the install to the next clear day. Nothing about your price changes.
Step 5: Photos and a follow-up text
The same day, you get before-and-after photos of every side of the house, the manufacturer warranty document, and a text asking how it went. If anything looks off, you text the owner directly, and any problem with the install is fixed within 30 days at no charge.
How warranty claims work
Guttrz installs come with a 10-year workmanship warranty from Guttrz and Leaf Solution's Lifetime No-Clog Warranty on the Leaf Solution guards, which covers material, not labor. Both are explained on the warranty page. To start a claim, text a photo of the problem to (330) 818-5584 or email christian@getguttrz.com with your address. We look at it and tell you whether it is an install issue, which we fix under the workmanship warranty, or a material issue under the manufacturer warranty. Keep the warranty document and your install photos together, since they show how the guards looked on day one.
Aftercare for micro-mesh gutter guards
Micro-mesh guards need very little care, but not zero. Over time, pollen, shingle grit, and fine seed husks can leave a film on top of the mesh. An occasional rinse with a garden hose clears it. After a big fall leaf drop or a heavy storm, walk around the house and look for water spilling over the front edge. That is the sign a section needs a rinse. Questions
How long does gutter guard installation take?
Most homes are finished in one day, and usually in half a day. A two-story house with a lot of corners or tricky access can take the full day. From the first text to finished guards, the whole process usually takes about a week.
Do I need to be home for gutter guard installation?
No, as long as we can reach every side of the house. Leave gates unlocked, keep pets inside, and move cars from under the gutters. The work is all outside, and you get before-and-after photos by text when it is done. It does help to be home for the 20-minute on-site confirm so you can ask questions.
Can gutter guards be installed in winter in Ohio?
Yes, on dry days. Ladder work stops for rain, ice, snow on the roof edge, or high wind, so winter installs are more likely to shift by a day or two. If weather moves your date, we text you and reschedule for the next clear day.
What do I get after the install?
You get before-and-after photos of every side of the house the same day, the manufacturer warranty document, and a text asking how it went. If something looks wrong, you text the owner directly at (330) 818-5584.
Can gutter guards go on my existing gutters?
Usually, yes. Guttrz installs guards on existing 5-inch and 6-inch gutters that are in sound shape. If the fascia is rotted or a run is sagging badly, that has to be fixed before guards go on, and you will hear about it at the on-site check.
Can I install gutter guards myself instead?
On a single-story house with safe ladder footing, yes. Clean the gutters, flush the downspouts, and reseal leaking corners before any guard goes on, or you lock the problems in underneath. Two-story work is where the ladder risk and time add up quickly.
What if I change my mind after signing?
Ohio law gives buyers in home solicitation sales until midnight of the third business day after signing to cancel in writing. Guttrz includes the Ohio cancellation notice with every agreement, and it explains how to send your notice.
Should I replace my roof before getting gutter guards?
If a new roof is planned in the next year or two, yes, do the roof first. Guards are fastened at the roof edge, so a roofer will likely need to work around or remove them. Once the new roof is on, the guards can go on cleanly.
