A worked example

Say you own a two-story colonial in Jackson Township with about 200 feet of gutter and two big maples over the back roof. The gutters have not been touched since last fall. That job lands at the high end, about $300, because of the height and the volume of wet, packed debris. Clean it again in late fall before the gutters pack, and it usually comes in lower.

What is included in a Guttrz gutter cleaning?

Every cleaning gets the same job, whether it is $150 or $300. Here is what happens at your house, in order.

Ladder with a standoff. We set an extension ladder with a standoff bracket that rests on the roof, not on the gutter. That keeps the ladder off your gutter lip so it does not bend or dent the aluminum.
Hand cleanout of every run. Leaves, seeds, shingle grit, and the black muck under it all come out by hand and scoop. We do not blow debris off the roof into your beds or leave it on the lawn.
Bag and haul the debris. Everything goes into bags and leaves with us.
Flush every downspout. We run a hose at the top of each downspout and confirm water comes out the bottom fast and clear. A slow trickle means a clog in the elbow or the pipe, and we clear it from the top.
Check for leaks, sag, and loose hangers. While we are up there we look at every corner seam, end cap, and hanger. If a corner is weeping or a section has pulled low, we tell you. No surprise repair charges.
Before-and-after photos. You get photos of what the gutters looked like when we arrived, what came out, and how they look when we leave, texted the same day.

What changes the price of gutter cleaning?

Four things move a cleaning from $150 toward $300: the number of stories, the length of gutter, how much debris is in it, and what kind of debris it is. Height matters most, because two-story work means a longer ladder, more moves, and slower going. A few things are not included at all, and we tell you that up front.

Stories and roof height

A one-story ranch with the gutter at nine or ten feet is quick. A two-story colonial puts the gutter at twenty feet or more, and a walkout basement can add a third story on the back.

Gutter length

Most homes in Stark County have somewhere between 120 and 260 feet of gutter. Longer runs and more corners mean more ladder moves.

How much is in there

Gutters cleaned twice a year hold a few inches of loose debris. Gutters skipped for two or three years hold a wet, heavy mat of decayed leaves with seedlings growing in it, and the downspouts are usually packed solid. That is a longer job and the price reflects it.

Pine needles

White pine and spruce needles slide past most screens and pack into downspout elbows like felt. Clearing them often means pulling the elbows apart, which adds time. If you have pines close to the roof, mention it when you text so the price is right the first time.

Underground drains are not included

Many homes here run their downspouts into an underground pipe that goes to the street, a dry well, or a storm line. We flush each downspout to the ground and tell you if water backs up at the connection. Clearing that buried line takes a drain company with a jetter or a camera, and we refer that out.

When should you clean gutters in Northeast Ohio?

Most homes in Canton and North Canton need two cleanings a year: one in late May or June after the maple seeds drop, and one in late November or early December after the last leaves are down. Homes under pines or backing up to woods often need a third or fourth pass. Timing matters more than the count.

The spring cleaning is the one people skip, and it is the one that causes the summer overflows. Red and silver maples shed their winged seeds in spring, and Ohio State University Extension notes that in a heavy seed year the drop can be massive. Those seeds sprout in a wet gutter and form a mat water cannot pass through. Clean too early in April and the gutters fill right back up. Wait until the bulk of the seeds are down.

The math is simple. Two cleanings a year at $200 each is $400 a year, or $2,000 over five years. Signs you need a gutter cleaning now

You can check most of these from the ground during the next rain. If you see two or more, the gutters are due.

Water sheets over the front edge in a steady rain, usually at a corner or right under a roof valley.
Nothing comes out of a downspout while the gutter above it is overflowing. That is a clogged downspout, not a full gutter.
Plants or grass are growing out of the gutter. Seeds have been in there long enough to sprout.
A gutter run looks like it is sagging or has pulled away from the fascia. Wet debris is heavy, and the weight bends hangers.
There is a trench in the mulch or bare soil directly under the gutter line.

Photos let you see what came out of your gutters and what condition they are in without climbing a ladder. That matters because gutters fail quietly. A corner seam that weeps, a hanger that has pulled its screw, or an end cap that has separated is invisible from the ground until it stains the siding or rots the fascia. You should know about it now, while it is a small fix.

Photos also keep us honest. If we say the gutters were packed solid, you can see it. If they were nearly clean and you could wait longer next time, you can see that too.

Should you keep cleaning or install guards?

Keep cleaning if your home has few trees, one story, and you are fine paying $150 to $300 once or twice a year. Consider guards if you are paying for two or more cleanings a year, you are climbing a ladder yourself and would rather not, or your downspouts keep clogging with seeds and needles between visits.

How much does gutter cleaning cost per foot?

Guttrz prices the whole job at $150 to $300 rather than by the foot. Sites that quote per-foot averages for Ohio usually land around $1 to $2.50 per foot, but a per-foot number hides the thing that really sets the price, which is ladder time on a two-story home. Text your address and the number of stories and you get one firm number.

Do you clean underground downspout drains?

No. We flush every downspout from the top and confirm water comes out at the bottom or into the drain connection. If the buried line backs up, we tell you and show you in the photos. Clearing an underground drain takes a jetter or a camera, so we refer that to a drain company.

Do I need to be home for a gutter cleaning?

No. As long as we can reach the gutters, gates are unlocked, and pets are inside, we can do the whole job while you are at work. You get the before-and-after photos by text the same day, along with anything we noticed about leaks, sag, or loose hangers.

What happens if it rains on my cleaning day?

Light rain does not stop a cleaning, and it actually makes downspout clogs easier to spot. Heavy rain, lightning, or high wind means we stay off the ladder. In that case we text you and move the job to the next open day. There is no charge for a weather reschedule.

Do you clean gutters that already have guards on them?

Yes, but it depends on the guard. Plastic screens and foam inserts lift out and go back in. Some guards are screwed down and have to come off and be reinstalled, which takes longer. If your guards are the reason the gutters clog, we will tell you that honestly instead of just cleaning around them. If removal adds real time, you hear the price before we start, not after.

Do you do commercial gutter cleaning?

Our work is residential. If you own a small building with standard 5-inch or 6-inch gutters that an extension ladder can reach, text the address and a photo and we will tell you straight whether it is a fit. Flat roofs with box gutters and anything that needs a lift are not something we take on.
