Two of those lines are fair as separate items: gutter repair and removal of old guards, since only some houses need them. What hidden costs of gutter guards show up as add-ons?

Why is my gutter guard quote so high?
A gutter guard quote is usually high for one of three reasons: the per-foot rate is high to begin with, add-ons were stacked on a low base rate, or the quote includes gutter replacement rather than guards on your existing gutters. Check one more thing. If a quote replaces your gutters with a one-piece hooded system, you are buying new gutters, not a guard. That is a different product at a different price and should not be compared per foot with a guard that goes on gutters you already have.
How does "20 percent off tonight" gutter guard pricing work?
Same-night discounts work by starting from a list price the company sets, then taking off percentages until the number reaches a target the salesperson planned to land on anyway. A 20 percent discount off a $7,000 quote for 200 feet is $5,600, which is still $28 per foot. The discount is real only if the list price was.
The pattern: the presentation starts with a high number. Then comes a discount for signing today, a seasonal promotion, and sometimes a manager call to approve one more cut. On a 200-foot two-story home the math looks like this:

- After 20 percent off tonight: $5,600, which is $28 per foot
- Same 200 feet at $17 per foot: $3,400
